Students are proficient in the theory and application of skills essential for knowledge representation in evolving technology environments, in any chosen area of specialization.

III.a. Students analyze, organize and describe various formats of information objects.
This assignment using Omeka was a great learning experience. It gave me hands-on experience putting the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set into practice. I was able to choose a subject that I have a keen interest in – the musical legacy of David Bowie. In this assignment, I was able combine images (photographs, album cover art) and text-based (lyrics) digital objects into a cohesive whole. Overall, this project advanced my knowledge and skills in digital librarianship.

III.b. Students identify and apply best practices in the use of different technologies for knowledge representation.
Librarians must be able to use a variety of software programs and technologies to present information effectively in a visually-appealing way. To practice and develop my skills using Photoshop and InDesign, I designed two related promotional materials for Lucky Ones Rescue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving homeless dogs that I founded. I had never designed a brochure or large format publication before. These skills will certainly come in handy for creating all kinds of library print and digital materials.

For this assignment, I chose to examine and present the issue of social work in libraries and to use Photoshop to create the infographics that are included in my brief report. Librarians often encounter individuals facing various social challenges, such as homelessness, mental health issues, and unemployment. Librarians can provide support, referrals, and resources to connect their patrons with essential social services. By bridging the gap between information and social services, social work in libraries contributes to building more equitable and resilient communities.
