Students understand the systems and technologies that facilitate the management and use of information resources to serve the diverse needs of users.

II.a Students identify and analyze diverse information needs of individuals and communities.

LGBTQ+ resources are being banned in libraries due to a complex set of factors. These bans have sparked significant debates about intellectual freedom, censorship, and the importance of providing diverse resources in libraries. For this assignment, I chose to analyze the needs of LGBTQ+ patrons in light of the current, divisive situation. Ultimately, by providing services to LGBTQ+ patrons, libraries can actively contribute to building more inclusive, diverse, and supportive communities.

II.b. Students evaluate and select print and digital information resources and systems to meet needs of users.

Information literacy is crucial in today’s information-rich world because it empowers individuals to sift through the vast amount of data to discern fact from fiction. When people are able to critically evaluate information, they are able to make well-informed decisions in various aspects of their lives, participate in important lifelong learning, and engage meaningfully in a democratic society. Librarians are at the forefront of equipping their patrons with information literacy skills which is why I elected to assemble resources on this topic in this assignment. Additionally, creating LibGuides is an important task of librarians.

II.c. Students understand and use appropriate information technology for information services.

It is imperative for library, archive, special collections professionals to stay up-to-date with new technologies, such as 3-D scanning and printing, and their potential applications in order to better serve their institutions and patrons. In this paper, I provide an overview of the benefits and limitations of 3-D preservation techniques in libraries. Despite limitations, 3-D printing and scanning have great potential for completely transforming the way we preserve cultural heritage artifacts and will continue to be invaluable tools for library professionals well into the future.
